HORIZON REFRESH Project

REFRESH (Smart dismantling, sorting and REcycling of glass Fiber Reinforced composite from wind power Sector) is funded by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) under the Horizon Europe programme. This 48-month project, launched in 2023, aims to develop a new multidisciplinary system to produce high-performance recycled materials recovered from wind turbine blades.

Over the 2023–2026 period, we are collaborating with a European partnership to achieve the project’s objectives: streamlining the turbine removal process; exploring and implementing various thermochemical recovery technologies for plastic components; developing mechanical recovery technologies and increasing the production capacity of the Aviano plant; and creating high-performance materials from recycled epoxy-matrix composites, glass fiber, and carbon fiber that can successfully enter the market and make a significant contribution to the circular economy for composites.

Our partners: EuCIA (European Composites Industry Association), RINA Consulting SpA (Italy), ACCIONA Construccion SA (Spain), CETMA (Italy), CIRCE (Spain), TECNALIA (Spain), MTB Manufacturing (France), Gjenkraft AS (Norway), and STD France.
