Kick-off meeting del progetto MAELSTROM

Il 3 febbraio 2021 si è tenuto il Kick-off meeting del progetto MAELSTROM finanziato nell'ambito del programma dell'Unione Europea Horizon 2020 e dedicato alla mitigazione dell'impatto dei rifiuti marini negli ecosistemi costieri.
MAELSTROM - Smart technology for Marine Litter SusTainable RemOval and Management, è un progetto quadriennale iniziato ufficialmente il 01 gennaio 2021, e coordinato dall'Istituto di Scienze Marine del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR-ISMAR). Gees Recycling è nel Partenariato multidisciplinare che riunisce esperti di vari settori, che vanno dalla robotica alla biologia marina, dal riciclo dei materiali e al coinvolgimento di cittadini e stakeholder. L'obiettivo principale di MAELSTROM è quello di trovare soluzioni per ridurre l'impatto dei rifiuti marini negli ecosistemi costieri, identificando i luoghi di accumulo, intercettando i rifiuti fluviali galleggianti e rimuovendo quelli depositati sui fondali marini, soprattutto costituiti da materiali plastici, in modo da evitare la loro degradazione in microplastiche.

On 3 February 2021, the Kick-off meeting of the MAELSTROM project funded under the European Union Horizon 2020 program and dedicated to the mitigation of the impact of marine litter on coastal ecosystems was held.
MAELSTROM - Smart technology for Marine Litter Sustainable Removable and Management, is a four-year project officially started on 01 January 2021, and coordinated by the Institute of Marine Sciences of the National Research Council (CNR-ISMAR). Gees Recycling is in the multidisciplinary partnership that brings together experts from various sectors, ranging from robotics to marine biology, from the recycling of materials and to the involvement of citizens and stakeholders. The main objective of MAELSTROM is to find solutions to reduce the impact of marine litter in coastal ecosystems, identifying places of accumulation, intercepting floating river litter and removing those deposited on the seabed, especially made up of plastic materials, so to avoid their degradation into microplastics.
